Congress Out of Time as Markets Search for Pre-Election Stimulus

From Bloomberg Radio, Bloomberg Surveillance — Jun 21st, 2026

Henrietta Treyz of Veda Partners said investors hoping for additional consumer-focused stimulus before the election may be disappointed, as Congress has little time left to advance major legislation. With lawmakers facing a limited number of legislative days and prospects for another reconciliation bill effectively off the table, Treyz believes the recent extension of the Iran ceasefire may represent the closest thing to economic relief available, particularly if lower energy prices help ease pressure on consumers.

Treyz also highlighted growing uncertainty around U.S. policy on Iran, trade, and artificial intelligence, arguing that Congress is unlikely to approve major initiatives before the election. While affordability remains the dominant political issue for now, she expects AI regulation to become a much larger focus after November, as a new wave of lawmakers pushes for increased oversight of AI companies, consumer protections, and stricter regulatory frameworks that could shape the industry heading into the next election cycle.
