Yahoo! Finance | Trump denies claims of pared-back tariffs: Expert analysis

From Yahoo! Finance, Video Appearance — Jan 7th, 2025

President-elect Donald Trump denied reports that his tariff policy would be scaled back, prompting market discussions about the feasibility of his trade and tax agenda. Henrietta Treyz, director of economic policy at Veda Partners, joined Catalysts to weigh in.

Treyz noted that while markets are taking Trump’s campaign promises seriously, “there’s not a lot of detailed trade knowledge on the street right now.” She explained that tariffs, currently generating about $74 billion per year, would need to rise substantially to cover a $2.5 trillion gap in funding Trump’s proposed tax cuts. “All expectations about massive tax cuts, limited tariffs, and easy passage should be pared back,” she cautioned.
