Zuckerberg and Dorsey get a congressional tongue lashing, but does D.C. have more punishment in store?

For years, CEOs of America’s largest tech companies have been called before Congress to answer for alleged monopolistic practices, biased content moderation, and privacy violations. Yet, despite repeated hearings, lawmakers have rarely followed through with meaningful legislation. 

Alex Cynamon of Veda Partners notes that the current climate of bipartisan concern could change that. “There’s a level of bipartisan support that should embolden the Biden administration to pursue enforcement actions and rulemaking that address competition policy and could even be narrowly focused on the tech sector,” he said. This shift could empower regulators, particularly the Federal Trade Commission, to take stronger action on antitrust and competitive practices in the tech industry.
